I am deeply troubled by recent developments in California under the leadership of Governor Gavin Newsom. Governor Newsom recently signed a bill, AB-665, into law that raises serious concerns about the well-being of our children and the erosion of parental rights.

This new law permits children as young as 12 years old to undergo gender identity counseling and treatments without the consent or knowledge of their parents. What is particularly concerning is that no proof of harm is required to justify these actions. The only criteria seem to be whether a child is deemed “mature enough to participate” or if they are considered an “alleged victim” of abuse at home. This raises questions about how these determinations will be made and whether they truly have the best interests of the child at heart.

While some argue that this law is necessary to protect LGBTQ children who may face abuse at home for coming out as transgender, it is crucial to strike a balance between safeguarding children’s rights and preserving the important role of parents in their children’s lives.

Furthermore, Governor Newsom’s track record on issues related to gender and sexuality is cause for concern. His support for non-binary bathrooms in schools and his threats to fine schools for not teaching about Harvey Milk, an individual with a controversial history, raise questions about his priorities and values.

As rumors circulate about Governor Newsom’s potential role in national politics, it is essential for concerned parents and citizens to be vigilant and engaged in the political process. We must ensure that our children’s well-being and parental rights are protected, regardless of the direction our leaders may take us.
